This is not really the end. I’m just done with this stream of work. I’ve been doing this log of my design work for about seven years - it dates all the way back to my early days as an architecture student. Sadly it has really thinned out a lot in the last year as I’ve been way way too busy. I’m starting fresh for 2010 with a new layout and new work here.

Last night we performed with Assume Vivid Astro Focus at the Guggenheim as part of the Eye to Eye series. We created a sort of soundscape somewhere between the Velvet Underground and Kraftwerk, but noisier, more abstact, and surely not as good. Our set was surrounded on all sides by Kandinsky paintings. We actually had to keep our distance in case of a catastrophic technical failure. We perform again tonight.

We still have not properly photographed the branches we designed for Pin-Up, but I did just find this quick progress shot of a detail mid-construction.

Bad photo, but cool project. We recently designed a series of tesselated structures for the launch of Pin-Up Magazine issue 7 (which features Bureau V). The pieces are hybrids between found birch branches and finished birch 1x1 boards. Better images and more details soon.

This vase is one of the first workable prototypes to come from our experiments. The vase is made out of poplar reclaimed from tree trimmings and a clear acrylic resin. It measures approximately 12” tall and 6” in diameter. Currently we are fine tuning the production process, trying to make larger pieces, use less resin, and fabricate with less manual labor. We should have a more complete line in the next month.

The design consisted of display stands that housed still life installations by artists and fashion world people working in New York. Here is a quick shot of one of the stands that I took on my phone. The whole endeavor was cheap, fast, and fly by night, with a focus on producing something subtle and elegant within the atmosphere of the brand.
