Our approximation function is now running relatively well. The script allows us to approximate any surface with a scalable dodecahedron module.
Heart Approximation
Crystalline Framing Module
In order to approximate a surface with geometric members, we must design something that can be repeatable in multiple vectors. We are thinking this crystalline form could be the basic geometry (the perspective is skewed, all of the triangles are equilateral).
Surface Function
We are experimenting with MATLAB to generate surface functions with the intent of being able to produce complex surface and structural systems.
Parabolic Solar Facade
Here's the first glimpse of a design we’re working on — a facade composed of parabolic solar reflectors, set into kinetic gyroscopic frames, and punctuated by diamond planters.
Beatrice Developed
Beatrice, the patterning script we were working on a while back has been greatly optimized. Its now producing rather clear results.
Hex Cloud Surface Approximation Concept
Surface Patterning
This has been sitting on my desktop for a while. I think gave up on whatever it was supposed to be — but It is still working for me. Maybe I’ll un-give up.
Parametric Domain
I think we are very close to getting our surface approximation script to work.
Technique Towards Form
I’ll be giving a lecture today at The University of Pennsylvania on the reciprocal relationships between technique and form.
Exploding Plastic Inevitable Review
We will have our first review for the studio I’m teaching at U Penn tomorrow. The jury should include:
Detlef Mertins
Rhett Russo
Ferda Kolatan
Gisela Baurmann
Jenny Sabin
Julie Beckman
Srdjan Jovanovic Weiss
Ali Rahim
Surface Approximation with Dodecahedrons
Exploding Plastic Inevitable
Here's the brief for the design studio I'm teaching this semester at The University of Pennsylvania School of Design:
Exploding Plastic Inevitable
Architecture ostensibly operates to accommodate known functions; a set of programs and economies that validate and enable its spatial and formal capacities. But what exactly are these functions and what are their properties? Are there other architectural performances, or moreover, performative architectures, that open up cultural, political, as well as affective opportunities in the physical world?
Bureau V Website
I just finished the site design for Bureau V. Its sort of a modulating atmosphere based mostly on the work I was doing earlier on interactive atmospherics. Using random color sets and blurs, cloud formations fade in and out of existence. Each time the site opens a new organization appears and can be regenerated endlessly by pressing the space bar. I’ve also set it up so that the user can modify the design, either by dragging the orbs around or by deleting them by pressing shift and clicking on them. There’s no content yet, that’s the next step.
Mega Brand Edge City / Final
The final images from the Mega Brand Edge City studio I taught with Hani Rashid have been compiled and published in the studio section of this site. All past studios are now fully archived…time to write my brief for the Fall.
Accumulative Micro Behaviors / Final
I’ve compiled the final presentations from the Accumulative Micro Behaviors studio I taught with Hernan Diaz Alonso last Fall. The videos along with the studio brief are posted in the new studio section of this site.
Hot House(s) Final Projects
I’ve compiled the final presentations for the Hot House(s) studio I taught with Hani Rashid and Theo Lalis this last Spring. The videos along with the studio brief are posted in the new studio section of this site.
Business Cards
After multiple revisions, in-depth proportional analysis, and repeated viewings of American Psycho, we finally came up with some business cards for Bureau V.
Early XV
Here's another discovery made while searching through my hard drive… This is some of the earliest work Noah Olmsted and I did as XV. It was kind of a technique / mood driven research project / art piece. It has its moments.
Fluffy
This animation is proof that I have a problem with doing the work that I’m actually supposed to be doing, Looking for some unrelated files on an old drive, I stumbled onto these images from the first XV animation. Originally tests for a larger project, they are re-edited here into a short flash loop.
